Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship presented by Toronto Star Wheels Evaluation Day moves three more drivers up to cars

MOSPORT, ONTARIO "This is the hardest it has been yet," Ron Fellows said of the choices of Markham's Marco Di Leo, London's Matt Pritiko and Etobicoke's Robert Wickens out of the ten drivers present for the third installment of the Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship presented by Toronto Star Wheels Evaluation Day.

The day was held on the driver development track at Mosport and all ten drivers showed they meant business from the first time out. "They were all fast, the best group yet," Ugo Provencher, chief instructor for the Bridgestone Academy said.

By the time the Evaluation sessions were over, three drivers had staked serious claims to join the team. "Once again we had to pick three," Fellows said. "But with this very talented group, picking three was very hard. They all worked hard to get here, and they all worked hard today. I'd like to take them all, but sadly we can't."

Of the three picked, the youngest is 15 year old Robert Wickens. Wickens is a two time Formula Junior champion and this was his first attempt at Evaluation Day. "I came in with low expectations, and I just tried to focus on driving," Wickens said. "To be picked is a huge honour. Thanks to Ron and Sunoco for the opportunity."

Markham's Marco Di Leo has had a career year. He is the current Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship presented by Toronto Star Wheels Rotax Max Champion, reigning Canadian National Rotax Max champion and will represent Canada at the World Finals in the Canary Islands in January. Now he will also represent Sunoco and Ron Fellows as a member of Sunoco's Team Ultra 94 in 2005. "I am very happy to have been picked," Di Leo said. "Thanks to Ron and Sunoco for the opportunity. I am sure my team mates and I will uphold the tradition of this team."

The third but by no means last pick was Formula Senior race winner Matt Pritiko. Pritiko endured a small mechanical issue, but rebounded well to take his spot on the team. "I jumped from one car to the other, but the Bridgestone mechanics did a great job to fix my original car. Once I got back in to the first car, I was really comfortable," Pritiko said. "It was a good day overall , I am happy to be chosen to be teammates with Marco and Robbie thanks Ron and Sunoco."

The objective of the Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship Presented by Toronto Star Wheels is to help foster a professional environment for kart drivers; help create a positive attitude towards appearance, conduct and discipline; help foster the employment of the best practices for the safe and fair running of competitions; and help kart drivers to move up the racing ladder to automobile racing.
