Silver Karts at the front again in ProKart Challenge

August 1, 2008 (Huntington Beach, Calif.) -- Few teams have had their karts log more miles this summer than the G-Phactory squad. Despite being based just a few miles from the beach in a city that is internationally known as Surf City, the G-Phactory guys don't miss a chance to be at the track. This past weekend was no exception, as they traveled a couple of hours south to San Diego to compete in the ProKart Challenge's fifth SoCal round of the year.

Heading the charge would be brothers Adam and Andrick Zeen in the competitive TaG class. A harbinger of how competitive the class would be came in qualifying when Adam put his Sodi Kart a mere .060 of a second ahead of brother Andrick's. In fact, three-tenths of a second separated the first five karts in that session.

Both were in the thick of the action in the two heat races, with Andrick finishing second and third while Adam suffered a mechanical ailment and contact which meant he would start the day's main at the back. However, Adam's Sodi Kart was dialed in on this day and he rocketed to the front and looked like a win was in the cards -- until the front gear on his kart failed and sidelined him, leaving Andrick to take up the charge. Then, while battling for the lead, Andrick had contact with another kart, knocking him a ways back from the leader. Andrick would finish second, but when the winning driver was penalized for the contact with him, Andrick inherited his first win of the year in Pro Kart Challenge. He had also won a round of the SKUSA Winternats at the same track in January.

Meanwhile, in the competitive S4L class, Bryce Miller put in another solid weekend in his rookie season of shifter kart racing for G-Phactory. After qualifying third, Miller finished both heat races and the main in third place.

The full G-Phactory / Sodi Racing USA squad will be back in action for the Stars of Karting Western Division Finale, scheduled for August 22-24, somewhere in Seattle, Wash. The weekend after, the ProKart Challenge has its season finale in Santa Maria, Calif.
