P1 ENGINES IMPRESSES AT SKUSA SUPERNATIONALS
"One pole position and two main event wins"
November 30, 2009 -- P1 Engines had a very successful outing at the 13th annual Superkarts! USA (SKUSA) SuperNationals taking two main event wins, one pole position, multiple heat race victories, three podiums and seven top ten results in the offered TaG divisions. Scoring the win for P1 was Californian Taylor Miinch in the TaG Senior division while fellow P1 driver Gustavo Menezes would come home second.
With 80 competitors in the TaG Senior class, P1 drivers Gustavo Menezes, Bobby Kelly and Taylor Miinch would qualify second, third and tenth respectively. Looking for strong results in the heat races, both Miinch and Menezes had solid finishes while Kelly had two top ten results, but contact in one heat race caused him to start deep in the talent-laded field.
Both Miinch and Menezes were mired in the front quartet of drivers throughout the 25 lap final and when the dust had finally settled it was P1 Engines and Miinch taking the top spot. Menezes would finish on the second step of the podium making it a 1 -- 2 finish for the up and coming engine builder. Fellow P1 driver Bobby Kelly improved from his 26th place starting spot to finish 21st.
The TaG Junior division would see more than 60 competitors for the first time in its inception, and six P1 Engines powered drivers would be entered. European and P1 Engines competitor Jake Dennis would score the pole position while fellow P1 pilots Tristan DeGrand, Raquel Martinez and Phillip Orcic would also be in the top ten.
Dennis went untouched through all the heat races scoring all three wins and the pole position for the main event. Challenged only in the late stages of the race, Dennis would cross the stripe in the second position but be awarded the win after a technical infraction against the on track race winner, giving P1 Engines its second win on the weekend. Canadian Phillip Orcic would just miss the podium in his P1 Engines rental coming home sixth while Californian Raquel Martinez would finish seventh. Other P1 Engines powered drivers included Mason Chelootz in tenth and Shawn Sharkey in 15th.
P1 Engines had a sole entry in the TaG Maters division and that was front runner Ty Matta. Scoring a solid top ten in qualifying, Matta used his power and consistency to progress through the heat races and into the final. Running as high as second in the main event, Matta would eventually finish on the podium in the fourth position.
2010 will be a busy season for P1 Engines as plans to compete in all the major series are moving forward. P1 Engines will be seen at the front of the pack at Championship Karting International, WSK Florida Cup, Florida Winter Tour, International Karting Federation Region 7 and World Karting Association Manufacturer's Cup.
