August Highlighted By $5.00 Admission, Giveaways, Increased Purses And Great Racing Action At Selinsgrove Speedway
7/25/01, Selinsgrove, PA - While the summer may be winding down, hot racing action continues all through the month of August at Selinsgrove Speedway and Selinsgrove Raceway Park. The month is packed with dual-card, racing weekends, beginning August 3 and 4.
In its inaugural season, Selinsgrove Raceway Park will be in action each and every Friday night during the month ahead. Full programs of Micro Sprints and Go-Karts are slated for August 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31 on the new one-fifth mile track.
The month kicks off in a huge way at Selinsgrove Speedway on August 4 when the half-mile oval hosts its second annual Kids Night program with hundreds of giveaways planned for tomorrow's racers, including bicycles, shirts and much more. The night boasts a general admission price of just $5.00 for a complete program of sprint cars, late models and pro stocks along with bicycle, big-foot and big-wheel racing for the kids on the Selinsgrove clay during intermission.
The speedway returns to action on August 11 when the 15th Annual Bob Bender Late Model Memorial will be spun off along with the sprints and the pro stocks. A four-time event winner, Nescopeck's Bobby Croop took the original version of the memorial in 1987 while Blain's Jeff Smith is the defending event champion.
August 18 will be Auto Locator night at the speedway. Sponsored by the Mt. Joy based, new and used weekly automotive shopping catalog, a regular three division program of sprints, late models and pro stocks is on tap for the night along with giveaways courtesy of Auto Locator. Along with lucky number shirts and hats, the first 1,000 fans passing through the gates will receive pens courtesy of Auto Locator.
The speedway ends summer with its final camera and autograph night of the season on August 25, sponsored by Penn-Selin Air aviation instruction of Selinsgrove. Courtesy of Penn-Selin Air, sponsor of sprint car driver Brian Buckwalter, each of the evening's winners will receive an increased payoff. Sprint cars will vie for $1,400 to win while the late models and pro stocks will race for $1,200 and $250 to win respectively, all in regular distance feature events. Gates open at 5 p.m. for the regular three-division program to allow fans free access to the pit areas prior to warm-ups in order to meet and greet the stars and cars of Selinsgrove Speedway.
