Path Valley Karters Finish Regular Points Races
Spring Run, PA_ Brothers Ryan and Chris Spangler of Duncansville each won Burris Karting features in the adult kart classes Saturday at the Path Valley Speedway Park, and Kevin Sheaffer of Mifflintown won in both Heavy and Animal karts.
The season's final points race is not the last race for the Burris Karts as the karters return Oct. 23 for the Third Annual Go-Kart Finale, a rare night race on the soft Path Valley clay. Gates open at 5 p.m. that Saturday night and more than 100 karts are anticipated.
The Spangler brothers race in different weight classes in the "boxstock" classes and Chris Spangler repeated his win of Sept. 11, the last race before the hurricane rainouts started, in the Lites class several yards ahead of points leader Geremey Sheaffer and Brent Hoffman in third. Brother Ryan won a close contest in the Mediums class just two lengths ahead of Brent Hoffman and points leader Geremey Sheaffer in third.
Dane Delancey of Port Royal added real drama to the last daytime race as he aimed at a personal goal of 100 wins on his #6 four-wheelers. Delancey won by a big margin of more than a turn ahead of the #63 or Henry Kubistek in the four-stroke four-wheelers. But in the two-stroke class that he has also dominated, he said, "I just got a little low coming out of four and he passed me."
Tom Naylor took the softer high groove and beat Delancey to the checkers by about six feet out of turn four on the final lap of the four-wheeler two-stroke feature. Naylor said, "I'm sorry he didn't get his 100 wins here today, he's helped all of us all season, but Dane left an opening and I had to take the chance." Delancey later won two of three features in that nights AMA four-wheeler features for wins 100 and 101.
Among the younger riders, Richard Edwards apparently locked up the Kids Karts season championship with his win, but Nathan Danner beat points leaders Ethan Beasom and J7ustin Cunningham in the Jr. Restricted karts. Sage Lynam of Duncansville continued to dominate the Caged Rookies, but in the Sr. Champs caged karts class Trevin Shank of Fayetteville upset apparent champion Pete Neuder.
The annual Path Valley Speedway Park awards banquet is Saturday night, Nov. 20, at the Pleasant Hall Fire Co. and tickets are still available at the track each weekend. Awards to the top karters start at 4:30, followed by dinner and then sprint, bike and stock car awards, followed by dancing. The top karters in each class who attend will be recognized in an awards program before the banquet, separate from the post-banquet awards for sprint and stock car drivers.
The Path Valley Speedway Park is located in Spring Run PA a mile north on PA Route 641 from the intersection with PA Route 75, halfway between Port Royal and Hagerstown. It is five miles east from the Willow Hill Exit 14 of the PA Turnpike. The new phone number at the track is 717-349-7111.
