Steve Welk to attempt Double Double at Road America
"Wisconsin Native to Race in Cooper Tires Championship Series and Stars of Karting Championship"
Elkhart Lake, WI. - 21-year old Steve Welk will be attempting to run two very different disciplines of motorsport in the same weekend when the Snap-On Stars of Karting series and the Cooper Tires Formula Ford Championship series roll into the famed Road America the 20-22 of August. Both events will be very important for Welk who sits 6th in both championships coming into the final rounds of both series.
In the Cooper Tires Championship Series Welk sits 6th in the championship standings; heading into the series final event of the year. Welk and his Aiken Racing Team have shown great consistency all year finishing all but one race inside the top 10. The college senior is no stranger to the 4.0 mile road course, as Welk took his first ever formula car victory at the track in a Skip Barber Race series event in 2001.
Welk competes in the ICA division of the Snap-On Stars of Karting East Championship with the Wisconsin based C-G Racing team. Currently he sits 6th in the standing on the strength of two podium finishes and another top five finish in six starts. The karting veteran has a lot of experience on the Briggs & Stratton Motorplex having competed at the track sense its opening in 2001.
"I think that this event is going to be an absolute blast for me, stated the Delafield, WI resident. I get to run at what I consider my home track in front of my friends and family, I could not ask for a better backdrop to attempt this kind of double. When the schedules for both series came together at this event I knew I was going to try it. I have put a lot of effort into both Championships this year and knew I could not let one out weight the other at this race. I really have to thank the Stars of Karting Series for working with me on the schedule, and both Aiken Racing and C-G Racing for supporting me this whole season and this weekend especially."
