A double podium for Eliott Bachelart at opening KRA race

Indianapolis, Indiana, April 19, 2006 -- It was a superb weekend for Eliott Bachelart at New Castle Raceway Park in Indianapolis last weekend. Competing in two races at the karting venue, the 14-year-old finished third in the first race and topped the day off by taking the honors in the final race in the Yamaha Jr. Super Can category.

After a shortened morning practice session due to rain, Bachelart qualified third for the first race, 0.307 seconds behind the leader. At the start of the race he fell to fourth after an incident with a competitor but made his way up the field to take the lead. Bachelart was in first place until the last corner of the final lap when two karts passed him, relegating him to third in a strong field of 26 drivers who for the most part also compete in the World Karting Association National events.

For the second race, the son of Mi-Jack Conquest Racing co-owner Eric Bachelart qualified on pole by 0.136 seconds ahead of his closest opponent but was unable to stay at the front in the opening laps. Bachelart fell to second and stayed there for most of the race, but with two laps left he regained the lead and fought off his rivals to score his second victory this season, by a slim margin of 0.097 seconds.

"I was very happy with how my weekend turned out. I hadn't raced at New Castle Raceway for about 5 months so I took the morning practice to get used to the track again. We found a good setup for our qualifying and we didn't do many changes for the races. The competition was very close with some good drivers. It felt good to have another win," said Bachelart, who won a WKA National race in Charlotte a few weeks ago.

Eliott Bachelart now looks forward to his next race which takes place at Michiana Raceway Park June 17-18 in Southbend, Indiana.
