Givogue and Major complete first Honda Michelin race
Both Kart Depot Predators enjoy opening weekend
MOSPORT, ONTARIO The Kart Depot Predators team has completed the opening round of the 2005 Honda Michelin Series, and team manager Steve Morris was very happy with the performance that his two drivers, Ottawa's Tyler Givogue and Philip Major put in on the weekend.
"We had a good first weekend with our Dow Hondas," said Morris. "We learned a lot and both cars came back in one piece."
Both Major and Givogue were competing in their first ever race. Major led the team in qualifying, taking 16th on the grid, with Givogue right behind him. "We have a lot to learn," Major said. "New cars, a new track, new series, and just car racing in general, make this a difficult first weekend. Our goal is to get better each time out in our Dow Hondas, and so far we have done that."
Givogue experimented with the setup of his Dow Honda, and they went the wrong way with it in qualifying. "There is so much to learn, so we have to take it step by step," Givogue said.
In the race, both drivers stayed out of trouble and both went faster in the race than they had all weekend, which left the team with a good feeling leaving Mosport. "It was fun," Givogue said. "We have the cars in one piece, and we got faster each time out." Major echoed Givogue's comments and added, "For Montreal we should be much better." Givogue ended up 15th, with Major right behind him in 16th.
