Brad McClelland, Westminster, MD, one of of the area's finer Micro Sprint pilots, made the trip to central PA and returned home with the big prize of $800 in Greenwood Valley Action Track's 11th Annual Firecracker 500. As usual, the special Micro Sprint Feature drew top driving talent and, though McClelland started and led from the pole, he was challenged an passed by Blane Heimbach and Jeff Furlong. Heimbach fell out of competition when his suspension let go and Furlong spun taking Colby Womer out with him, leaving Joe Bednarski, Wyoming, last years class champion as the second place finisher. David Utt, Catawissa, took third place followed by Neil Petock, Bloomsburg, Randy West, and Skeetz Hockenbrock. Seventh through tenth places were claimed by John Wagner, Sr., Jim Radney, Denny Rhinehimer and Kevin Nolf.
In The Action Track's Rookie Micro Sprint Feature, Scott Tate, Middleburg, won his fourth feature event of the 2000 season, and will be moved into the Regular Micro Sprint ranks starting next week. Michael Ruttkamp, Wilton, CT, was second across the line and Joey Finan, Milton was third while Frank Venezia, Little Ferry, NJ was fourth. In the fifth position was Joel Thomas, Bloomsburg, Rob Pajauis, Asbury, NJ, was sixth and Dave Williams, Pottstown, was seventh. Rounding out the top ten were Ross Perchak, Hazelton, Brit Rider, Millville and Brett Arndt, Topton.
In Modified Garden Tractor action it was a full Faus field. Rodney, Kevin, Paul, Denny and Scott Faus finished in that order after a lively and exciting modified lawn tractor contest. Five brothers having a great time on the oval dirt track.
Next week is the regular, exciting and challenging Saturday night of oval, dirt track racing at the Greenwood Valley Action Track, located 3 1/2 miles east of Millville just south of route 254. Great food, great racing all leads to great family fun at The Action Track.
