"Two podiums for JICA pilot Nick Neri"
Homestead, Florida --Nick Neri, in his JICA debut, claimed a victory and two podium results this past weekend at the first round of the Florida Winter Tour held at the Homestead Karting Complex in Homestead, Florida. The talented San Yves Motorsports pilot currently sits tied for the points lead after the first weekend of competition.
Neri was able to show his speed early on Saturday morning as the Maranello pilot was able to claim the pole position over a field of talented Junior Intercontinental A (JICA) drivers. Neri fell back at the start of the prefinal but was able to work his way forward throughout the event. On lap three, Neri took over the second position and then a lap later, took the lead and the eventual win claiming an inside front row starting position for the final.
"We interviewed and searched last year for a JICA driver to be a mentor to our cadets and Nick fit the mold for talent as well as his personality and dedication" explained Jon Nevoso. "We are thrilled that Nick was able to enjoy early success in his first ever JICA race."
Taking advantage of a battle behind him, Neri was able to drive away from the field with some fast and consistent race laps during the feature race. The San Yves Motorsports young gun cruised to victory by almost two seconds and enjoyed the top step of the Florida Winter Tour podium.
Looking to repeat Saturday's result, Neri was able to slice his way through the field after finishing just inside the prefinal top ten. Neri looked like an aged veteran as he progressed through the field not putting a wheel wrong as he moved into the third and final podium position. Though the victory was out of reach, Neri was thinking championship and with his third place result, he currently sits tied for the lead in the 2008 Florida Winter Tour.
The talented junior will enjoy a few weeks off before looking for another victory at the next event to be held at Moroso Motorsports Park over the February 15-17 weekend
