Juncos Racing wrapped up the second event of the Florida Winter Tour this past weekend with four team drivers competing at Moroso Motorsport Park. Florida's Bijon Spinazzola represented team green in JICA while Canadians Scott Nagel, Joey Furfari Jr., and Devlin De Francesco lined up in Cadet. The team collected seven top-ten runs through prefinal and main events, and all four moved forward from qualifying sessions through the Sunday finales.
Bijon Spinazzola led the way for the team, beginning with a P11 from qualifying on Saturday in a JICA field of thirty. Once the green waved for the prefinal Spinazzola was immediately in the battle for top five. Already sixth through the first lap, the 15-year-old moved as high as fourth in scrapping his way to fifth as the checker waved. Docked one spot for passing under yellow, Spinazzola started the main from sixth and slotted seventh through the first half of eighteen laps. Looking to move in the second half, the Juncos junior was as high as sixth and as low as ninth before crossing seventh to end day one. Starting further forward on Sunday, Spinazzola qualified eighth for race four and ran to fifth in the prefinal. He gained two more spots with post-race penalties and started the final run of the weekend from P3. After an initial jump to second, the Naples, Florida, pilot settled into fifth and with three to go was sixth. He took one spot in the remaining laps to cross fifth and earned his best finish of the season. It brought 75 points, and with 198 overall Spinazzola now sits tenth through two events.
In leading the Cadet charge, Scott Nagel also worked his way forward throughout the weekend. After qualifying 13th for race three, Nagel advanced to 11th in the prefinal and maintained the position through the weekend's first main where he turned a lap three-tenths quicker. Returning for round four on Sunday, the 11-year-old qualified 12th and once again jumped forward in the prefinal. This time it was to seventh, but after maintaining the position through the first lap of the main his raced ended early. Nagel now sits 11th in points, just three from the top ten. Devlin De Francesco once again ended the weekend on a strong note, earning his third top-ten finish at the Winter Tour. After problems in the Saturday prefinal, the seven-year-old ran from the back to 15th in his first start and on Sunday qualified 16th before moving to tenth in the prefinal. He maintained the spot through the main event and moved to 13th in Series' points. Joey Furfari Jr. rounded the lineup and after timing 18th on Saturday he moved to 14th in the prefinal - lapping well over one second quicker! Once again one second better than qualifying in the main event, Furfari closed day one in 16th. Looking to improve once again on Sunday, the ten-year-old qualified two full seconds quicker than his Saturday qualifying effort. An accident in the prefinal led to the back of the pack, before he recovered to 16th once again on Sunday.
Juncos Racing will resume the Florida Winter Tour March 7-9 at Ocala Gran Prix beginning with the International Rotax Max Challenge and wrapping with the CIK weekend five days later.
