DOUBLE-PODIUM FINISH FOR ELIOTT BACHELART AT MICHIANA RACEWAY PARK
Indianapolis, Indiana, June 20, 2006 -- It was a busy weekend for Eliott Bachelart this past Saturday and Sunday at Michiana Raceway Park in South Bend, Indiana. The teenager participated in four races. In H.P.V. Jr. Lite, he finished second and was fifth in H.P.V. Jr. Heavy. In Yamaha Jr. Can Heavy, he placed himself third in the first race of the weekend and failed to take the green flag in the Yamaha Jr. Can Lite race as his engine died on the pace lap.
With temperatures in the low 90s Saturday, Bachelart qualified fourth out of 15 karts in H.P.V. Jr. and was first in the pre-final. In the final, he battled hard and led nearly the whole race until two laps remained when he was passed by Steve Nemeth. Bachelart was unable to get back around him and had to settle for second place. In Yamaha Jr. Can, the son of Eric Bachelart, co-owner of the Mi-Jack Conquest Racing Team, also qualified fourth (out of 24) but this time took fourth in the pre-final. Suffering from too much grip all day, he came in third in the final, his second podium finish of the day.
On Sunday Bachelart was able to qualify in dry conditions before the rain came, but traffic on his final qualifying lap in H.P.V. Jr. cost him a couple of tenths and a position, placing him fourth, but he was on pole for the Yamaha Jr. Can pre-final which was also disputed in dry conditions. Unable to conserve his first position, the 14-year-old ended up third in the pre-final. In wet conditions for the Yamaha Jr. Can final, Bachelart's engine died on the pace lap, probably caused by water going into the carburetor.
The H.P.V. pre-final was run in pouring rain, and Bachelart was quick as he went from fourth to second in two corners, unfortunately he spun around at the end of the first lap not being smooth enough with the throttle and had to settle for last place. He made quite a come back though in the final as he moved up from last place on the grid to finishing in fifth.
"All together I am pretty pleased with how my weekend turned out. I had two podium finishes and one top-five. It's just a shame that my engine died in my Yamaha Jr. Can lite final because I had a fast kart, but those problems are out of our control. It was my first race at Michiana Raceway Park and it was good preparation for our next race here, we now have fast setups for both karts and I have good knowledge on how the track goes. I have to thank A.J. Codalata for his hard work, as well as Brandon Taylor who decided to come help us out this race weekend."
Eliott Bachelart will be returning to Michiana Raceway Park for his next race, the seasons Grand National on July 14-16.
