Third round of season for Superkarts! USA regional program puts series inside the famed St. Louis oval

ST. LOUIS, MO (June 21, 2010) - Preparations are in the closing stages for the third round of the Superkarts! USA's Midwest regional program - the Central States Challenge (SCSC) - scheduled at the Gateway International Raceway in Madison, Illinois on June 26-27. The SCSC opened up the 2010 season with a double-header weekend at the New Castle Motorsports Park in May with a solid weekend of racing.

The opening weekend in Indiana saw great racing throughout the two-days. The S2 category was split by Evan Batt and Lukas Johnson with Batt holding the point lead by 25 points heading to Gateway. In S4, the victories were split by series champion Rick Freund and newcomer Ron Petersen. Two of the largest classes were TaG Junior and TaG Cadet, with both swept on the weekend by Karl Weber and Kyle Donahue. Scoring victory on Sunday, Colton Aldridge leads the TaG Senior standings with Kevin Donahue and Derek Crockett giving chase. Colton Brooks doubled up in New Castle in S5 with Luke Howard leading the standings in Kid Kart going into round three.

The track layout for this year's event will be changed from last year's temporary circuit. Using part of the oval, road course, and other areas inside the Gateway facility, the circuit will have sweeping corners and off-camber turns to put the drivers to the test. Pre-entries have been coming in from Kansas, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Indiana, and Missouri. Competitors can still pre-register by midnight, June 23 (www.centralstateskarting.com/Forms/2010_Entry_Form.pdf) and those not yet entered do not have to be a Superkarts! USA member to race unless they are racing for the point championship. While the MG Yellow tires are required for those in the SKUSA categories, competitors are not required to purchase your tires from the series.

The third round of the Central States Challenge is scheduled as one event contested over two days of action. Beginning on June 26, a full day of practice will take place with qualifying held at the end of the day. Sunday will consist of morning warm-up followed by both rounds of heat races, leading into the main event. Trailer and motorhome parking will be conducted Friday prior to the start of the weekend from 5pm-9pm, with no charge for parking both nights.

SCSC championship leaders in all the SKUSA classes following the Gateway event will be eligible for a drawing to win free entries to the Superkarts! USA North American Pro Tour SummerNationals, set for July 16-18 at the USA International Raceway in Shawano, WI. SwedeTech Racing Engines Jason Berry will also be on hand to provide service to the Midwest customers throughout the weekend as well.
