CENTRAL STATES CHALLENGE READIES FOR 2010 OPENER AT NEW CASTLE
Double-header weekend scheduled at leading circuit in the country to begin new season for Superkarts! USA regional

ST. LOUIS, MO (May 7, 2010) - The staff and competitors of the Superkarts! USA's Midwest regional program - the Central States Challenge - are all fired up after the launch of the new SKUSA Pro Tour in Sonoma last month, and they are now ready to begin the 2010 season with a double-header weekend at the New Castle Motorsports Park on May 15-16. Beginning its third year under the SKUSA banner, the Central States Challenge (SCSC) is anticipating its biggest and brightest season yet as part of the growing shifter and TaG racing organization. The series' teams and drivers will be contesting the famed 1-mile course outside Indianapolis - and the first weekend is expected to see some great racing.

"The Central States Challenge made its first visit to New Castle in 2009 and our racers loved it," stated SKUSA Central States Challenge Director Pam Freund. "The Dismore family has a great facility, and it's certainly a great place to begin the new season. We have a solid group of competitors from Illinois, Missouri, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, and other areas that will be making the journey to New Castle. We invite all the local drivers from Indy and the surrounding area to join us to get a taste of some Superkarts! USA action."

The weekend format will allow competitors to utilize the open track practice - run by the New Castle Motorsports Park staff on Friday - for extra warm-up time for those who have not yet hit the track for the first time this year. Saturday and Sunday will act as the first two rounds of the series, each with a full slate of racing (Qualifying, Prefinal, and Final).

The weekend will also be the debut of new officials working with the Central States Challenge. New series race director will be Stan Bryniarski. A former SKUSA 'A' team member and current Director of Operations for the organization comes to the SCSC program with a solid background in karting, adding to an already outstanding program staff. For 2010, Mark Riley has been added to handle technical inspections. Introduced to the sport through his son's racing, Riley has latched onto karting as he has in the past with drag racing, motocross, and sprint car racing - in addition to his 13 years of experience as an aerial lift mechanic.

To fall in line with the new national class structure created by Superkarts! USA, the Central States Challenge revamped its class lineup to mirror the organization's changes. The shifter classes will follow the Stock Moto ladder system - S1, S2, S3, S4, and S5 - along with the G1 category. The TaG Senior, TaG Master, and TaG Junior divisions will return, adjusted to the technical regulations SKUSA has implemented for the 'Touch and Go' engines. Additional classes to run with the SCSC as Local Option will be the Yamaha Senior SuperCan, Yamaha Junior SuperCan, TaG Cadet, Yamaha Junior Sportsman and Kid Kart. All SKUSA categories will compete on the spec MG Tire, while the local option Yamaha divisions will use Bridgestone tires.

"Superkarts! USA is excited to see the third season ready to begin for the Central States Challenge," commented SKUSA CEO Tom Kutscher. "Their program has been gaining momentum each year, and this season will be no different. Pam, Mike and the rest of the crew put together great events throughout the year and give racers across the Midwest a chance to race their shifterkarts and TaGs."

Those competing at the opening weekend of the Central States Challenge will be able to win free entries to the series' second stop of 2010, Gateway International Raceway on June 26-27 for round three. SCSC championship leaders in all the SKUSA classes following the Gateway event will be eligible for a drawing to win free entries to the Superkarts! USA North American Pro Tour SummerNationals, set for July 16-18 at the USA International Raceway in Shawano, WI.
