Kart Mini drivers Sebastian Ordonez and Dalton Sargeant take wins in the opening round of CKI Florida Cup

Deerfield Beach, FL -- RDD Motorsports of Deerfield Beach, Florida, the exclusive North American importer of the Kart Mini chassis, hot off the heels of a strong opening weekend of Florida Winter Tour action, backed that up with a great opening round in the newly minted Championship Karting Florida Cup. RDD launched a full assault on the weekend, which included all four regular drivers and one special guest driver. Indy Racing League driver Vitor Miera took the start in Saturday action in the Rotax Senior class running well throughout the day to finish in the 13th spot. Prior IRL commitments kept Miera racing on Sunday.

"Any time you can take the win in two classes is a good start," comments RDD Motorsports Team Manager Andre Serra. "Homestead is like our home track and we had really prepared to do well on the weekend."

In Junior Rotax Sebastian Ordonez showed he was the man to beat right from the start running quick laps in official Friday Practice. On Saturday Ordonez would serve notice he was in contention for the championship, making it a clean sweep of the day taking pole, winning the prefinal and wrapping up the day with the win the final and taking the fast lap in every on track session of the day. On Sunday, Ordonez was again quick taking 3rd place in timed qualifying. On lap one of the prefinal Ordonez would be sidelined as he lost the rear wheel off his kart on the warm up lap. In the final Ordonez would start last and hope to get up front for a podium. A brilliant drive would see Ordonez closed in on the lead group with a few laps remaining to take the 3rd podium position from dead last and secure fast lap of the race on his charge forward. The combined points tally would put Ordonez in second overall spot for the weekend.

In Mini Max, RDD Motorsports would field all three drivers aboard the potent Kart Mini Rotax package. Brothers Logan and Dalton Sargeant would line up with cousin Garrett Sargeant for a solid Friday official practice session. In Saturday action it was the Dalton Show as he, like his teammate Ordonez, made the clean sweep taking the pole, the pre-final win and the final win to earn top spot on the box. Logan would go 3rd in timed qualifying and grab the 3rd spot in prefinal. In the final Logan would cross the line in the fourth spot. Garrett would also run strong running all day inside the top ten taking 8th in qualifying, a 6th place in the prefinal and a solid 8th place in the final.

On Sunday the weather changed dramatically and the RDD crew moved quickly to stay with the changing conditions. Garrett would lead the way with second in qualifying followed by Dalton in 6th and Logan in 10th spot, the result of a lost chain early in the session. In the prefinal it was again Garrett leading the RDD crew taking 5th with Logan in 6th and Dalton struggling from contact back in 10th. Logan would grab fast lap in the prefinal. In the final Logan would have a nice run and take the second spot on the podium with Dalton charging forward to grab 4th and fast lap of the race. Early contact put Garrett back deep in the field and he was able to charge forward to cross the line in 8th. Dalton now sits in 2nd overall on the weekend with Logan in the 3rd overall spot.

"The weather change caught us out a bit, but our guys rally back to finish well," comments Serra. "We enjoyed plenty of fast laps and lots of great results to sit well in the overall points championships. We will keep up our testing program leading up to the next round."

Up next for RDD Motorsports will be round two of the Florida Winter Tour taking place at Palm Beach International Raceway in Jupiter, Florida in February. The RRD Motorsports team will also compete in the new Rotax Pan Am Challenge and head back to Las Vegas for the SuperNats late in the year.
