RDD Motorsports takes two Class Championships in the inaugural CKI Florida Cup as Ordonez dominates Junior Rotax
Deerfield Beach, FL - RDD Motorsports of Deerfield Beach, Florida, the exclusive North American importer of the Kart Mini chassis, took the top spot in two different class championships at the CKI Florida Cup. The team was impressive in the first major series to crown champions in 2010 after another outstanding weekend of racing action.
The RDD Motorsports Team went into the weekend atop the standings in two classes and looked for solid performances to secure the teams early season position a top the leader board. In Rotax Junior Max, pilot Sebastian Ordonez was unstoppable as he completely dominated the entire weekend to grab the championship title and start 2010 with a bang. Likewise in Rotax Mini Max, Dalton Sargeant would steal back-to-back wins to secure his first title of the new decade.
"I am very proud of Sebastian and Dalton for taking championship titles in the CKI Florida Cup, " comments Andre Serra, RDD Motorsports Team Manager. "It's a great way to start the season and we will work hard to keep the momentum going."
In Rotax Mini Max, brothers Dalton and Logan Sargeant would be joined by new team member Sebastian Coulson at the permanent parking lot facility of Homestead-Miami Speedway as regular RDD driver Garrett Sargeant would not make the trip due to a prior commitment. In Saturday race one action all three drivers would crack the top ten in qualifying with Dalton going to P2, Coulson taking the sixth spot and Logan grabbing seventh. In the prefinal, all RDD drivers would race their way into the top five with Dalton in second, Logan in third and Couslon taking fifth at the line. In the final it was Dalton taking the top spot and fast lap of the race to secure his spot in the title chase. Logan would hit the line in third spot with Coulson crossing in eleventh spot.
On Sunday, Dalton looked to put his name on the championship trophy. The day didn't start well as Dalton lost a chain on the first lap of qualifying and would end up in the fourteenth sport, while Logan would go third quick with Coulson setting the fifth fastest time. In the prefinal Dalton would charge forward to take the third spot, one behind Logan who finished in second. Coulson would run a solid race to cross the stripe in the fifth spot. In the final Dalton would not sit back and points race the championship, deciding to go for the win and put an exclamation point on his title run. He quickly went to P1 with brother Logan in tow. At the line it was Dalton with the win, fast lap of the race and the CKI Florida Cup Rotax Mini Max Championship. Logan would grab second spot on the podium with Coulson crossing in a fantastic sixth spot in his maiden run with RDD/Kart Mini.
In Junior Rotax action Sebastian Ordonez, the sole RDD Motorsports driver, would decimate the competition on his way to the first major title of the 2010 kart-racing season. In a word Ordonez was flawless, never missing a beat all weekend long. In Saturday action the young Brazilian, now living in Florida, was fastest in morning warm up, took the pole in qualifying, won the prefinal with fast lap and won the final with fast lap. The black and yellow Kart Mini driver would repeat that on Sunday as he never saw his name leave the top of the time sheets in any on track action. Ordonez's performance would earn him the CKI Florida Cup Rotax Junior Max Championship crown and set himself up as the one to beat in 2010.
"Our newest driver Sebastian Coulson did a great job and will be with us for more races in 2010," comments Serra. "This coming weekend in Ocala will be another tough weekend and we look to run well in both classes and maybe secure another title. "
Up next for RDD Motorsports team will be the third and final weekend of FWT Rotax taking place at newly resurfaced Ocala Gran Prix this coming weekend. The Kart Mini team will have three drivers in Rotax Mini Max and one in Rotax Junior Max as they continue to fight for wins and titles. In Junior Rotax Ordonez sits in the second spot in the championship hunt, needing a miracle to take championship title over the first place kart. Ordonez will look to repeat his round one win in the final weekend of action FWT Rotax action. In Mini Max Dalton sits nicely atop the overall standings and looks to make it two titles in two weeks. Logan looks to bounce back from the tough opening weekend that has him sitting in tenth amongst the 47 registered karts. With some solid racing and a drop, Logan looks to move into the top five after the dusts settles.
The RRD Motorsports team will also compete in the new Rotax Pan Am Challenge and head back to Las Vegas for the SuperNats late in the year.
