P1 ENGINES CLAIM SEVEN PODIUM RESULTS AT WKA DAYTONA
"Four drivers, seven podiums"
January 4, 2010 -- P1 Engines made the long trek from California to central Florida for the opening round of the 2010 World Karting Association (WKA) Manufacturer's Cup. Held on the grounds of the famed Daytona International Speedway between Christmas and New Years, P1 Engines would work with four drivers as they looked to garner race wins and strong starts to the 2010 season, as well as start to build momentum heading into the new year in several different classes.
"The Manufacturer's Cup is a different series than we have on the West coast," stated Jesus Vasquez, Owner of P1 Engines. "There are a ton of entries and the competition is tough. I'm working with my customers on a daily basis to ensure success in this series."
P1 Engines would be well represented on the podium in the junior divisions as three of the four drivers would see action in those divisions. Leading the way would be SCS Racing and Merlin Racing Chassis driver Shawn Sharkey as he would do battle in four separate classes. The talented New Jersey resident ran as high as second in Komet Piston Port Junior Lite but would have to settle for a solid third place finish. Sharky would repeat his success in the Komet Piston Port Junior Heavy class with another third place result before claiming a sixth in the Yamaha Junior Heavy division.
Joining Sharkey in the four junior classes would be Top Kart pilot Raquel Martinez. The always fast driver would run near the top of the time sheets all weekend long but would run into some bad luck during wheel-to-wheel racing action. When the dust had settled, the Californian would claim a sixth place result in Komet Piston Port Junior Lite as well as a top ten finish in Yamaha Junior Heavy.
Leading the P1 Engines way in the Komet Piston Port Sportsman class was Top Kart driver Zane Smith. The multi-time champion could be seen at the front of the field throughout the weekend as he would battle for the lead on several occasions. Racing against drivers with much more experience at the Daytona track, Smith worked hard to score a fourth place result while claiming the second fastest race lap.
Senior pilot Jacob Duvall would be P1 Engines lone engine rental of the week as he would compete in his first ever TaG Senior race. Showing speed early in the weekend, Duvall would qualify in the fifth position out of a field of 50 drivers strong.
Vasquez added, "I am committed to winning and will be working hard in developing motors for the next event. I am also committed to be at each and every WKA race this season and will be here supporting all my drivers and customers."
2010 will be a busy season for P1 Engines as plans to compete in all the major series are moving forward. P1 Engines will be seen at the front of the pack at Championship Karting International, WSK Florida Cup, Florida Winter Tour, International Karting Federation Region 7 and World Karting Association Manufacturer's Cup.
