TWO PODIUMS FOR DORE CHAPONICK AT WSK NORTH AMERICAN SERIES PHOENIX EVENT
Miami karter stands on podium twice in Phoenix
Miami, FL - DFR Racing Team pilot Dore Chaponick displayed a brilliant performance at the Grand Prix of Phoenix, the second round of the WSK North American Series, held at the PKRA circuit in Glendale, Arizona. Racing in the competitive Leopard Jr. class, Chaponick earned two runner-up finishes and with that, returns to the hunt for the overall class championship.
"An overall great weekend in Phoenix," comments Chaponick from his Miami residence. "I was very close to winning on Sunday, but one small mistake cost me the victory. Nonetheless, I am still very happy with the weekends results."
The on-track action in Phoenix was very exciting as the fourteen-kart Leopard Junior class closed both days' events. After a disappointing seventh-place qualifying effort, and a pre-final effort that saw him run as high as second, yet finish eighth, Chaponick was ready for Saturdays final. Making his charge to the front early, Chaponick was into the top three before the halfway marker. Hounding the leaders in the closing laps, he was able to grab second place with five to go. However his pursuit of the leader came up just short, and he had to settle for second.
"Any one of the top-eight karts could have won the race today. The class is just that close," continued Chaponick.
Posting the fastest time in qualifying on Sunday set Dore on the pole-position. However after leading the pre-final in the early stages, contact in the closing laps resulted in him finishing in fifth place. Tucking into second in the opening lap, Dore shadowed the leader in the early stages of the final. Making his move to the lead on lap four, he secured it and took control of the field. However with only two laps to go, a minor mistake cost Chaponick the lead and eventually the race. Rebounding to cross the finish line on the bumper of the leader, he earned his second podium of the weekend, and some very valuable championship points.
"It was a great race, unfortunately, one minor error cost me the race. Also, I want to congratulate my teammate Devlin [Defrancesco], he drove an amazing race and won the Mini-Max class."
For his results on the weekend, Chaponick earned the runner-up spot for the event.
Next up for Chaponick will be the second round of the Rotax Pan American Challenge being held at New Castle Motorsports Park in New Castle, Indiana on June 11-13.
