A day of firsts at Dubbo

23 August, 2003 -- While the rain tumbled down on the Lincoln County Raceway in Dubbo it was a day of firsts for the drivers in the fourth round of the Dunlop Australian CIK Championship today.

All four classes had drivers record their career first pole positions in their respective classes. Matthew Wall was the pace in Formula A aboard his JT Team Arrow machine as was the Byron Bay bullet, Andrew Thompson in Intercontinental C, Birel driver Nick Lowe in Intercontinental A and South Australian Omega driver Mason Merritt in Junior Intercontinental A.

Throughout the day Wall was hampered by carburettor problems while CRG driver Jason Hryniuk took out both Formula A heat races throughout the day. Following him across the line was CRG team mate Wade Cunningham in the first and John Grother in the second for his best ever Formula A finish.

"The start was the most important part of both races as there a bit of action in turn one where a couple of the guys got together, luckily though I got a good jump and then simply drove my own race," said Hryniuk.

Thompson claimed both Intercontinental C races ahead of Ashley Slavkovic in convincing fashion. Despite having some drama's throughout the day Tyson Pearce and Justin Ruggier showed glimpses of pace to be considered as a threat for tomorrow's action.

Intercontinental A action was filled with drama with Championship contenders, Lowe, Glenn Powles and troy Woodger all suffering DNF's in the second event. After finishing third in the opening heat Shane Price took out the second.

Paul Laskazeski recorded a win and second place in Junior Intercontinental A as Tony Kart driver Ashley Walsh won the other. Championship leader, Kristian Lindbom was involved with several battles with Merritt, Daniel Erickson and Ben McCashney throughout the day.

The action continues tomorrow with the final heat of racing at 9:30am followed by Pre-Final and Finals.
