"Wehrheim scores podium at biggest race of the year"
Norcross, GA (November 29, 2010) -- Team Top Kart USA's Chris Wehrheim scored a podium at the SKUSA SuperNationals XIV with a fifth place finish in TaG Sr. This was Chris's first time back in a kart in almost a year. Chris was consistent the entire weekend, improving each session and peaking at just the right time.
From the first session on track Chris was very comfortable with his Fleming Leopard powered Top Kart "Flash". Chris spent the majority of Wednesday's practice working on engine tuning and his driving, ending the day inside the top 15. On Thursday Chris made his first chassis change of the weekend and continued to improve his package. Chris' final practice session was his first new tire run of the weekend and his consistency continued, ending the day in eighth.
With a solid morning warm-up under his belt Chris was ready for qualifying and ended the session in thirteenth, which gave him a seventh starting position for each of the five heat races. Chris' congruity earned him a fifth position in all three of his heat races, giving him the fifth place starting spot for the final.
The inside row was the place to start all weekend and Chris got off to another great start, but was forced wide in turn two and fell to ninth position. As the leaders started to build a lead over the main field Chris began his charge to the front. Once taking charge of the chasing group Chris started to close the gap to the leaders at two to three tenths a lap and with around seven laps to go caught the group. With five laps to go Chris made his pass for sixth position, but was while exiting the corner and again lost touch. In the last four laps Chris gained ground on the leader and on the last lap made a pass for the final podium position.
"This was just an incredible weekend on and off the track," commented Wehrheim. "I really missed being in a kart this year and am very happy with the result. I have to give a big thanks to the Ostrom's and Adkins Speed Center for lending me a 2009 Leopard for the final."
Rising Star has also launched Chris's website (www.chriswehrheim.com) where fans can now keep track of all of Chris's racing action in one location. Chris's next race will be WKA Kartweek at Daytona International Speedway in the TaG classes. Chris is also finalizing his 2011 racing plans in the Grand-Am Continental Challenge series, which he hopes to announce in the coming weeks.
