Chris Vander Drift, the youngest driver in the Team Kiwi Racing stable at 15 years old, clinched another major karting title this past weekend when he took out the Junior ICA class in the 2001 Pro Series. The series consisted of four rounds held across New Zealand with some of the biggest names in New Zealand junior karting competing.

Chris came into the final round in Wellington just 4 points adrift of the series lead, but a mature performance in the final assured him of the vital points he needed to secure the championship in only his first year in the JICA class. Chris currently holds five major NZ junior titles:- National Yamaha, National JICA, North Island Yamaha, JICA Pro Series and the CIK Trophy of New Zealand. "Team Kiwi are proud of Chris' on-track achievements this year", said team owner David John. "He has vindicated his selection into our Junior Development Academy which will see him progress through the ranks of karting, through our NZ Touring Cars and eventually into V8 Supercars", he added.

Chris' last outing as a junior will come later this month when he will be looking to add another two titles to his tally at the North Island Championships, to be held in Auckland. Here he will defend his Junior Yamaha title and will attempt to secure the North Island JICA title as well.
