Kiwi Kartstar hits bad luck in Australia.

Young Kiwi kart champion, 16 year old Chris Vander Drift, had a rough time at the 3rd round of the Ford Racing Kartstars Series in Raleigh, NSW. Coming into the 3rd round, Chris was joint 2nd overall for the series and was looking for a strong result to consolidate his position. The team struggled to find an ideal kart setup on a challenging circuit that they had never driven on before. Having qualified in 12th position, Chris managed to work his way through the heat races to secure grid 10 for the final.

By mid race Chris had worked his way up to 5th and was near the front of a freight train of drivers. Unfortunately, coming into a right hand turn, Chris was given a big shunt from one of the drivers behind him, forcing him into the back of a kart in front of him. Chris spun out and had to wait for the group of karts to pass before he could rejoin the race, eventually finishing in a disappointing 14th position.

"We managed to get a reasonable setup for the final and I was starting to work my through the field when I got a huge hit from behind", said Chris. "I was devastated to be knocked off and lose valuable series points, but we're hoping to make up for it at the next round in Adelaide during August", he added.
