Thompson V's Woolston for KartStars crown
17 September, 2003 - After four rounds on the east coast the Ford KartStars Series will come down to a two way fight for the victory this weekend at South Australia's Bolivar Raceway between Andrew Thompson and Troy Woolston.
15-year-old Thompson started the year in scintillating form at Raleigh to dominate the opening round and has finished on the podium in every round since. While Woolston is the only driver to claim two round victories, Ipswich and Oran Park he leads the way on adjusted points by a mere one point given that drivers can drop their worst results of the series.
Both Thompson and Woolston have previously had success at the historic Bolivar circuit while the lone South Australian in the Series, Reif Corbett could certainly throw "a cat amongst the pigeons" this weekend. Corbett has had a disastrous run in the Series this year and is aiming to finish on a high.
Not to forget last year's fastest qualifier, Nick Parker and second placed finisher, Taz Douglas who could both figure prominently this weekend.
There is also another that will be just as hotly contested as the battle for the win with four drivers given a realistic chance for the final two spots inside the top 4 who will undergo the evaluation sessions to choose a driver for a Formula Ford drive in 2004.
These drivers are Josh Arandt, Wesley May, Jason Varley and young Victorian Tim Blanchard who has been impressive with his consistency this year. Just behind this quartet in the points is John Martin, Parker, Ben Savage and Adrian Estasy all of whom have a mathematical outside chance of snaring a top four finish in the Series.
Along with the Ford KartStars going down to the wire the Junior Sportsman class in the Super Cheap Auto Junior Blitz Series will a closely fought battle between last round victor Kristian Lindbom and Victorian's James Love and Jordie Lindstrom. This trio is within five points of each other in the Championship and with 25 points up for grabs it will be a fiercely contested round.
So the scene is set for a sensational final round to the 2003 Ford KartStars and Super Cheap Auto Junior Blitz Series' this weekend that will begin on Friday with Practice followed by qualifying on Saturday and the Finals to be held on Sunday afternoon.
Bolivar Raceway id located on Summer Road, BOLIVAR (just off Port Wakefield Road) and is approximately 20 minutes north of Adelaide.
