17 May, 2003 - The action in the opening day of competition at Raleigh, NSW in the Super Cheap Junior Blitz Series was a closely fought affair with Kristian Lindbom narrowly leading the way in the ARC supported Junior Sportsman class.
Lindbom recorded a second, sixth (from 17th on the grid) and a victory in his three heat races throughout the day to be starting on pole position for tomorrow's Pre-Final.
"In the final event today I got a bit too much grip but we will make some changes tonight in preparation for tomorrow's longer races so we can maintain our pace," said Lindbom after today's racing.
Starting on his outside will be James Love who took out the opening event when Jordie Lindstrom and David Sera went side by side into the final turn allowing Love through to claim a narrow victory.
In the second event it was a six-way battle for the lead between Ben Small, Ashley Walsh, Love, Lindstrom and Lindbom. Small made some amends for his opening race DNF to take out the event.
Jonathan Taylor started his Super Cheap Junior Blitz in the best way possible by taking dual victories in the ARC Junior National Heavy.
Following him across the line on both occasions was Corey Lean while Tim Eagle and Trent Laves filled the third spot at the completion of the two 8-lap heats.
Dual Sniper Rookies Champion Brent Reading led from the outset in the opening event of ARC Junior National Light. He then started from 13th spot on the grid to charge through the pack for a deserved victory.
Andrew McFarland, who led the early running of the second event before fading to third, will start on Reading's outside for tomorrow's Pre-Final.
In the Sniper Rookies it was Leigh Nicoloau who led all the way in the opening event and then came from 10th on the grid to also claim the victory in the second.
Chaz Mostert has been closely following the Victorian's movements throughout the day.
The Comer Midgets was a two-way battle all throughout the day between James Kovacic and Nicholas Foster with the pair taking one win each.
Racing in the Super Cheap Auto Junior Blitz Series will continue tomorrow with the Pre-Finals to be followed by the Finals beginning at 11:25am with the Comer Midgets.
