Joliet, Ill (July 7, 2003) True Value IROC practice and set-up testing began Monday at Chicagoland Speedway for round three of the 2003 season, which will take place this Saturday, July 12 at 4:30 p.m. CDT.
Saturday's 67-lap, 100.05-mile race will be broadcast the same day on ESPN at 9:00 p.m. EDT, preceded by re-airs of the Daytona opener and race two from Talladega Superspeedway, all starting at 7:00 p.m. EDT.
Fresh off World of Outlaws (WoO) victories at Knoxville Raceway over the July 4 weekend, Danny Lasoski and Steve Kinser, respectively one-two in the WoO points battle, crammed in a quick round of IROC practice before flying out to Cedar Lake Speedway in Somerset, Wis.
Monday's session marked Kinser's first time at Chicagoland. Kinser said, "It's a neat track, and one I definitely need to make some laps around yet. You have to get out of the gas a little bit and roll back in it. If you go out and run it hard you'll be alright for about three or four laps but you're going to burn everything up, burn up the tires and everything, so you have to learn how to conserve, which is something Danny and I will have to get used to. It took me about 20-laps to start getting settled in and certainly gave me plenty of things to think about. I'll sleep on it tonight and be ready for more tomorrow."
Lasoski got a head start on the new chassis and aero set up during the IROC test in June. Lasoski said, "The cars are very, very comfortable, a definite improvement over last year's setup for the first IROC race here, so hats-off to all the IROC guys and the test drivers. The wind was playing with us a bit today coming off of (turn) two, just blowing hard across there, but Kinser was out with me for his first time here and he picked it up right away. He (Kinser) didn't need much practice, which he never does. Bottom line is I think we're on the right track toward a great IROC race here this Saturday."
True Value IROC practice will continue throughout the remainder of the week at Chicagoland Speedway.
