PPG-Dayton Indy Lights Championship - RACE
Brazil's Cristiano da Matta won today's 42-lap race from the pole, crossing the finish line 3.456 seconds ahead of Derek Higgins and Airton Dare. He holds a 152-107 advantage over Guy Smith of England, which is insurmountable with two races remaining.
Team KOOL Green's Naoki Hattori did not finish today's race after being collected into a tire barrier by Chris Simmons, who was attempting a pass heading into Turn 8. Hattori was running in 10th position when the incident occurred on the 35th lap. He started 12th and was credited with 17th.
NAOKI HATTORI, #27 TEAM KOOL GREEN LOLA: (Started 12th / Finished 17th ; Currently 9th in the championship standings with 55 points)
"I missed a gear coming out of Turn 6 and that allowed Chris Simmons to catch up to me. But, I don't think he could have made the corner. When I turned into the corner (Turn 8), he was still going straight. We both ended up in the tires.
"Until then, the car was okay. I had a little oversteer and could not move up. It's so even, unless someone makes a mistake it is very difficult to pass."
