VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA (September 3, 2000) -- Team KOOL Green's Jeff Simmons earned the second podium of his rookie Indy Lights season today when he finished third in the Molson Indy Vancouver. JEFF SIMMONS, #26 Team KOOL Green Lola T97/20:
(Started 3rd / Finished 3rd ; Seventh in point standings with 64 points)
"I had trouble getting the car to downshift into second gear going into turn one, so I dropped back a couple of times there. But we had a quick car today and I was able to close the gap. I really have to thank the Team KOOL Green guys, they put the car back together just the way it was after that little incident in morning practice yesterday. When I had the problem with the gears going into turn one, Townsend Bell was able to close in on me. And when I was getting held up by the guys in front of me, he was able to close up as well. But I was able to hold Bell off. I caught a lapped car at the wrong place and the two leaders were able to pull away and get a gap to me. Right after that was when the pass for the lead happened. I was hoping to be a little closer and get past them when they were fighting with each other. That obviously didn't happen, but I'm glad to be up on the podium again and reward the crew with another trophy."
JONNY KANE, #27 Team KOOL Green Lola T97/20:
(Started 4th / DNF / Classified 15th ; 10th in point standings with 35 points)
"I saw Diaz behind me and coming down the inside. But I thought I'd braked late enough and that he had backed out of it and that there was enough room. I tried to leave a little bit of room, but we still came together and that was it. I'm just really disappointed for the Team KOOL Green crew. They gave me a great car all weekend."
