HATTORI & TEAM KOOL GREEN CONCLUDE PRE-SEASON TESTING
FedEx Championship Series:Round 1 - Miami - 12 March March 12 - HOMESTEAD, Fla. - Team KOOL Green Indy Lights driver Naoki Hattori wrapped up two days of testing on the 1.5-mile oval at the Miami-Dade Homestead Motorsports Complex. The test was open, Mar. 10-11, for all 24 cars entered in this Sunday's 67-lap race at 11 a.m. ET. Hattori turned in the ninth fastest time in the first day of testing with a lap-time of 30.291 seconds. He was 0.346 seconds off the best lap of the day from Clint Mears at 29.945 seconds. In day two, Hattori picked up the pace turning a lap of 30.100 seconds at 179.641 mph. Despite the faster time, he slipped to 10th in the pecking order behind Guy Smith, the fastest driver at 29.863 seconds (181.067 mph). Team KOOL Green Manager Kim Green indicated Hattori's fast lap was set on older tires. Each team is allotted two sets of tires per day, which Green says are good for about 100 miles. The team did 210 miles of testing on Tuesday and 270 miles of testing on Wednesday. Green says the tires had about 140 miles on them when Hattori set his fast lap. "We really had to work these past two days to get up to speed. We thought we had a good setup" Green said. "Naoki was fastest at a test session here last month and bettered the existing track record. But the setup wasn't right for the current conditions. There is much more rubber down on the track. We struggled a little bit with the car. One minute there was too much oversteer; then the next minute there'd be too much understeer. Finally, it settled down some."
