FRIDAY REPORT - Practice 1 and Qualifying 1
#64 Rolando Quintanilla (TelMex/Canel's) "This is my first time in Toronto and this city is so beautiful! This morning we were just getting a feel of the track and working on a set-up for this afternoon. I feel confident in the car and I am ready for qualifying!" Rolando (Quintanilla) set a time of 1:07.228 for the practice session on Friday then, moved onto a disappointing qualifying. On lap 12, Quintanilla came into the pits for a tire change and the crew discovered problems with the engine. Therefore, he was not able to finish the rest of the session. He finished in 9th place with a lap time of 1:06.847.
#65 Luis Diaz (TelMex/Canel's) Due to a penalty given in Portland, Luis Diaz wasn't able to finish the last five minutes of Friday's practice. He felt that with more laps, he would have been higher on the grid, but Luis managed to finish in 6th place with a lap time of 1:06.461. "The car feels very good! We made some adjustments on the shocks and the car is much better. I think that we have a good chance to be in the top five during qualifying this afternoon!" Diaz stated after Friday's practice session. And he was right! Luis (Diaz) set a lap time of 1:05.573 landing him in 4th place.
On his 17th lap, Luis (Diaz) hit the wall entering the front straight and the car suffered damage to the right front and rear suspension. He was slightly disappointed, but felt good as step out of the car. "Last weekend was a little difficult for my crew, and me but we will make up for it this weekend. During the session, I made a little mistake of trying to make my last lap very fast and I passed the limit of the car and hit the wall. The damage on the car was not big, but it will cost me 8 minutes in tomorrow's qualifying."
