Prendeville Finishes 25 Laps Sunday in Kansas For Racing Laps for Best Friends

KANSAS CITY, Kan., April 27 - Andrew Prendeville finished 25 laps of the 67-lap Firestone Indy Lights race Sunday at Kansas Speedway after another driver spun right in front of him and he became involved in the accident with his Best Friends Animal Society No. 5.

Prendeville was very lucky to escape uninjured in the accident, which started when Cyndie Allemann spun in Turn 2 of the 1.5-mile trioval. Prendeville did his best to miss her but he clipped her car with the nose of his car, which sent him into the outer wall. His car then careened down the track in front of a pack of cars, but miraculously none of them hit him. Neither he nor Allemann were hurt, but both of their cars were too damaged to continue.

Prendeville was credited with a 23rd-place finish and 25 laps completed for the fans that made donations to the Best Friends Animal Society through the racinglapsforbestfriends.com Web site.

Prendeville topped the charts in the Sunday morning practice session with a lap in 28.9498 for an average speed of 189.017 miles per hour. Qualifying was cancelled Sunday morning due to cold temperatures, with the starting line-up determined by entrant points.

Prendeville took the green flag in 11th place but he had a fabulous start, advancing to eighth by the end of lap one. He ran in eighth place for the first 17 laps, but then dropped back a couple of spots to allow his Firestone Firehawk tires to cool off. Unfortunately the crash occurred before he was able to see if he could advance once more.
