Davison awarded Most Improved Driver at IRL Championship Celebration.
Australian Motorsport Foundation International Rising Star James Davison, received the Sunoco Most Improved Driver Award and $10,000 prize money at the Indy Racing League Championship Celebration held at the Palms Casino in Las Vegas. James received the award after returning from commentating on the IndyCar Series at Surfers Paradise.
Davison was competitive from the outset early in the 2008 season however he was unable to secure a result due to a number of unfortunate circumstances. Later in the season, James qualified on Pole at Nashville SuperSpeedway including leading half the race, won in the rain at Mid Ohio and secured a close fought 2nd place at Kentucky Speedway. Other highlights included qualifying on the front row and leading the Firestone Freedom 100 at Indianapolis, and starting on the second row and running in the top 3 at the demanding Milwaukee Mile.
In summarizing the season James said "It has been another progressive and successful year for my career. I endured some poor luck throughout and did not secure a number of the results that I deserved, however to come away from my rookie season with a pole, win and a second is gratifying. I would like to thank the IRL, AMSF and Sam Schmidt Motorsports for all their efforts this season and look forward to returning to the series next year to apply what I have learnt and compete for the Championship."
Over the next couple of months Davison will finalise plans for the 2009 season which will begin on the Streets of St. Petersburg, Florida on April 4-5.
