Indy Pro Series Qualifying Dampened at Watkins Glen for Mishael Abbott

INDIANAPOLIS (June 3, 2006) -- Overnight rains failed to subside in time for Indy Pro Series qualifying on Saturday at Watkins Glen International and contributed to a single morning qualifying session. The early morning qualifying session was cancelled while waiting for the MedEvac helicopter. The Indy Racing League won't run without the medical helicopter in place but the low ceiling kept it from getting into the track.

Hoping to repeat past successes at "The Glen", Mishael Abbott found her already wet qualifying session further dampened when she slid off the track in Turn 1 and was unable to continue. Mishael will start her Michael Crawford Motorsports, car #8, for the Corning 100 in the sixteenth position when seventeen Indy Pro Series cars take to the 3.37-mile road course on Sunday.

"We were slow during the first practice sessions on Friday but picked up a few seconds by the end of third session and was confident we would pick up a couple more seconds today," said Mishael Abbott. "Unfortunately I pinched the turn-in at (Turn) 1 and the rear came around on me on the wet track. The team is working hard to repair the minor damage. Look for me to move up through the field when the green falls tomorrow."

Race time for the 29-lap (97.73 miles) Corning 100 is 12:30 p.m. (EDT) on Sunday. Television coverage is scheduled for Thursday, June 8 at 2:00 p.m. (EDT).
