sizzling racing likely for Firestone 100
Fort Worth, TX -- Menards Infiniti Pro Series rookie Nick Bussell hopes to take his #21 JL West Motorsports Dallara/Infiniti/Firestone machine into Victory Lane for the first time this season at the Freedom 100 at Texas Motor Speedway. Steamy weather and close wheel-to-wheel racing are expected for the weekend on the high-banked oval, with the draft playing a key part in determining the outcome.
"This track should really produce some awesome racing this weekend", says Bussell. "The steep banking encourages close racing, and that was already shown in the first practice session with a big pack of cars. We are working on getting our gears just right, and will have to take the wind into consideration this afternoon. We just want to get the car in the best shape possible to give us a chance to sit on the pole".
"Texas is a great place. I lived in Houston in 2003, and I've had some good times in Dallas with friends. I expect to have a few of them at the race, so it should be a fun weekend overall".
After four races, including his podium finish in St. Petersburg, the former karting champion is fifth in the MIPS point chase with 108, 39 behind points leader Wade Cunningham. After the weekend on the oval in Texas, the series returns to road course racing in Indianapolis on June 16th for the Liberty Challenge, run in conjunction with the Formula One United States Grand Prix.
The Firestone 100 will be televised on ESPN 2 on Thursday, June 16th at 3:00pm EDT, and the Liberty Challenge will air on Tuesday, June 21st at 5:00 EDT.
