SAM SCHMIDT MOTORSPORTS RIDES IN TRAFFIC IN HOMESTEAD

HOMESTEAD, Fla. -- Sam Schmidt Motorsports drivers Richard Antinucci, James Davison, Ana Beatriz, and Jon Brownson took to the Homestead-Miami Speedway oval today as a part of the first open test of the 2008 season for the Indy Pro Series.

The test allowed all participants to familiarize themselves with their teams and surroundings, gather data for the upcoming season-opening race, and to see how they match-up amongst their fellow competitors.

In total, 20 drivers posted lap times in today's session.

For Antinucci, Beatriz, and Davison, today's test allowed them to experience simulated race runs as they spent extended amounts of time running in traffic.

The trio spent the last part of the test running side-by-side and slicing and dicing with each other. Afterwards, all three excitedly told each other of their experiences of feeling heavy traffic for the first times along with learning to trust each other inches apart.

The team will test again on Friday, but it will be a private test session.

#7 LUCAS OIL/Sam Schmidt Motorsports Driver Richard Antinucci
Best Lap: 28.6611 seconds; 186.525 mph

"It was a very productive day for us. I learned 200% of what I had known before about ovals. It was my first real day of running in traffic, my first day of driving the LUCAS OIL car, and really, it was just an exciting day to work with the Sam Schmidt Motorsports crew. The guys do such a good job. It feels really good to be here."

#11 TBD/Sam Schmidt Motorsports Driver James Davison
Best Lap: 28.6519 seconds; 186.584 mph

"We got off to a bit of a challenging start. The balance on the car wasn't right. It was just too loose and it resulted in us contacting the wall and setting us back. In the afternoon, we started fresh. I built a relationship with the team and my engineer. He understands better what I need in a car. We did a quick qualification run, and that's when I set my fastest time. I got some good experience running in traffic. I'm happy with the day despite the setback, and I'm real happy with what I learned and achieved."

#23 Healthy Choice/Sam Schmidt Motorsports Driver Ana Beatriz
Best Lap: 28.7168 seconds; 186.163 mph

"It was great today, especially gaining experience in traffic. I thought I'd be scared, but I wasn't. It was so much fun! It was much more exciting to be in traffic than running alone. The experience was really good. I'm feeling really comfortable in the car and on the ovals. We'll just have to keep working and be ready to race here next month."

#34 West Ridge Development/Sam Schmidt Motorsports Driver Jon Brownson
Best Lap: 28.6865 seconds; 186.359 mph

"Today, we set out to get comfortable with the track. We were quick in both clean air and in traffic. We had a great opportunity to do both today. I've hardly driven since the end of last season, but it all came back to me quickly. The guys at Sam Schmidt Motorsports do such a good job preparing their cars that I can just focus on the job that I need to do, and that's drive. I really enjoyed the experience of learning to do my job better. I had a great time out there. It's a tremendous challenge, but I enjoyed learning and taking on the challenge."
