Dana Finishes Fifth, Earns "Hard Charger" Award at Phoenix

PHOENIX, March 21, 2004 -- Team Ethanol driver Paul Dana picked up the Pace "Hard Charger" Award for passing the most cars en route to a fifth-place finish at the tough 1-mile oval at Phoenix International Raceway on Saturday in round #2 of the Indy Racing League Menards Infiniti Pro Series.

Dana and the Hemelgarn-Johnson team struggled to find speed in the Friday practice sessions and Dana was only able to qualify the #91 Ethanol entry 10th. However, setup changes made after qualifying produced a good balance on the car for the race.

"Fifth place is nothing to write home about, but given how confused we were all weekend, and how we started, it almost feels like a win," Dana said. "We were one of the only cars passing people. I think we were one of the three fastest cars, and I was just being very careful, taking my time getting by people. If we caught a yellow we would have been in good shape but the race stayed green. Still, it was a blast. You want to have hard racing and then put it back on the trailer in one piece. The crew never gave up and we walked away with some decent points, so I'm pretty happy."

Team Ethanol was created through the cooperation of a group of companies within the fast-growing ethanol industry. Led by the major ethanol design-build firms Fagen Inc., ICM Inc. and Broin Companies, the team promotes ethanol as a high-octane, high-performance fuel that is clean burning, renewable, and domestically produced. Program supporters include the Broin-managed Ethanol plants and New Energy Corp. The team also receives promotional support from the American Coalition for Ethanol.
