RLR/Andersen Racing Out Early at Nashville

LEBANON, Tenn., July 14 - RLR/Andersen Racing's Joey Scarallo and Andrew Prendeville were both involved in a four-car crash in Turn 4 on the initial lap of Saturday's Sunbelt Rentals 100 Indy Pro Series race at Nashville Superspeedway. Luckily all the drivers involved escaped injury.

Scarallo, who started sixth, was credited with an 18th-place finish with his GroupAWheels.com No. 15. Prendeville, who started 12th, ended up 20th in the final standings with his Best Friends Animal Society No. 5.

Scarallo, of Smithtown, N.Y., said he thought his car popped out of gear to start the chain-reaction accident, which also collected the cars of Tom Wieringa and Mike Potekhen.

Neither driver was sure exactly what happened since the accident occurred so quickly. They're both anxious to see the replays when ESPN2 airs the event at 5 p.m. Eastern time on Wednesday.

The RLR/Andersen Racing crew will now take center stage as they work to repair both cars in time for next weekend's race at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio.

Joey Scarallo: "I think it popped out of gear; the car totally snapped around.

"On the pace lap it was popping out of second gear, so I had to start in third, and then going between Turns 3 and 4 I think it just popped out of fifth.

"I hit the wall backwards and then a car that had nowhere to go hit me in the front.

"The back of the car was making a popping sound even on the pace laps. If it didn't pop out of gear maybe something broke; I just don't know."

Andrew Prendeville: "Joey had a problem that started it. I was right behind Potekhen, and it collected both of us.

"We knew we were going to be good. We ran real well in the last practice session. I wasn't really concerned about moving up through the traffic because I felt we had a good race car.

"It's a shame for all of us. We'll try to do better next time for the Racing Laps for Best Friends program."
