Mishael Abbott Tests Indy Pro Series at Homestead-Miami
Road and Oval Testing with Michael Crawford Motorsports
MIAMI, FL (March 8, 2006) -- Mishael Abbott of Coral Springs, FL, was back in an Indy Pro Series car testing with Michael Crawford Motorsports on both the road course and the oval at Homestead-Miami Speedway in preparation for the 2006 Indy Racing League® Indy Pro Series season. IndyCar® Series and Indy Pro Series teams took advantage of five beautiful days in south Florida with the Indy Pro Series teams spending a full-day testing on the 2.21-mile road course and then a full-day on the 1.5-mile oval.
This year Mishael is driving for Michael Crawford Motorsports in at least the season opener at Homestead-Miami Speedway on March 26 with high hopes for the entire season. "I am so excited about this year," said Mishael. "I was at the race shop five days in a row last week, spending time getting to know the car and the team. This is a team sport and we need to all be on the same page. The communication between the engineer and myself is fantastic."
Mishael tested on the road course Saturday morning logging in 49 laps turning a best lap of 97.115 mph. She spent most of the time setting up the car and familiarizing herself with the car. "I am not overjoyed with my times today but I am very happy to be back in a Pro Series car for the first time since last June," said Mishael.
Monday morning Mishael tested on the Homestead-Miami oval; the track where she made her Indy Pro Series depute last year, qualifying fourth. It was a successful session for Mishael, recording 73 laps on the 1.5-mile oval with a quick lap of 28.9465 seconds (184.686 mph).
"I was sitting in the drivers meeting this morning and was thinking, I just can't wait to get out there on this oval," stated an enthusiastic Mishael Abbott. "I ran three straight laps with the series champion on my outside. I love this! This is what I want to do."
Mishael will return to her "home track" in the No. 9 Michael Crawford Motorsports entry for the Miami 100 on March 26, the season's first race. "It is a genuine pleasure having Mishael in the car this weekend," said Michael Crawford. "We accomplished our goals on Saturday and hit every mark on Monday. I think we're both looking forward to a very successful race weekend at Homestead and Monday was a super start."
The Indy Pro Series is the premier ladder series for drivers, teams, sponsors striving to compete in the IndyCar® Series and the Indianapolis 500®. Mishael Abbott is pursuing dual degrees from Florida Atlantic University in elementary education and at the University of Indianapolis in sports marketing. Mishael is seeking sponsorship support to complete the entire 2006 season.
