Infiniti Pro Series Post-Practice Quotes
ED CARPENTER (No. 2 Menards/Jack K. Elrod Co./Futaba/Delphi Dallara/Infiniti/Firestone): "We have a new wing package, and it's a lot more downforce. When you're running by yourself and in the draft, there's a big difference in times. It's really hard to tell where we stand right now. We're third on the charts right now, I guess, but I don't feel like we're that good by ourselves. We changed a motor today, and the new motor feels good, but we missed on the gears a little bit this last practice and are changing them out for tomorrow to hopefully give us some more RPM's."
ARIE LUYENDYK JR. (No. 5 Luyendyk Racing Dallara/Infiniti/Firestone): "Today didn't go very well. We've been having fuel-pump problems. We've also been overheating a little bit. We've had some problems early in the weekend, but it always seems to turn out good. The track is good. It's just flat out all around. We're seventh right now, and we were 13th in the first practice, so we keep improving. We always seem to find our way up to the front, and we'll do the same thing with it again."
A.J. FOYT IV (No. 14 Harrah's/A.J. Foyt Racing Dallara/Infiniti/Firestone): "We've mainly been working on qualifying setup because we've got qualifying tomorrow. We usually try to work on race setup during the final practice, but we really won't make any changes for the race, really just drafting and seeing how the car handles with a tow." (About his grandfather's influence on him): "I think it really helps on the racetrack. He helps me on what line to run and just what's going on all the way around the racetrack. He always keeps me involved in what's going on. He's been a big help to start off with. He's helped me win three races this season, and without him, I don't think I'd be close to doing what I'm doing."
G.J. MENNEN (No. 99 Greased Lightning Automotive Cleaning Products Dallara/Infiniti/Firestone): "It's gone pretty well for us. We'll take all the information we learned and noodle about it and hopefully come up with something good for tomorrow. You've got to look at what you're trying to do. Are you trying to win qualifying or are you trying to win the race? There are a lot of people trying to win qualifying, going for the ultimate lap, and they are going to get fooled when it comes time for the race. We're concentrating on our race car right now. There is definitely some stuff we have to work on because we've got to make it faster. Overall, I'd say we're somewhat pleased."
RONNIE JOHNCOX (No. 8 REV 1 Racing Special Dallara/Infiniti/Firestone): "Practice went pretty well this morning. We were happy with the car. This afternoon, we've got something going on. We're not exactly sure what it is right now. We're looking into it to see what happened. I think the track just changed enough that it got us off our mark. We'll just get it ready for the morning."
TOM WOOD (No. 9 Super 8 Motels/Sam Schmidt Motorsports Dallara/Infiniti/ Firestone): "We had a plan, and we've been following it. It's a good race car. That's what we were after. We changed a ton of stuff. We started at one end of the spectrum, and we worked all the way through it. We were making changes right up until the last outing. We got better every time we went out. We've got a really good car."
CORY WITHERILL (No. 92 WSA Healthcare Dallara/Infiniti/Firestone): "We were fast today, and it was good enough for the top of the charts. I'm happy with the car. Tomorrow we're going to qualify, and then we will be ready for the race. It's just flat out all the way around here. My engineers are working to try to think of something to gain us more speed." (Was the focus on qualifying setup or race day setup today?): "A little bit of both, I think. As long as you have a good car for the race and the dice roll your way, then you end up on top."
