Marco Andretti topped the speed charts after two practice session on the 2.3-mile Infineon Raceway road circuit. Andretti was fastest in both sessions improving his morning time of 1:25.5363 to 1:24.7618 in the afternoon.

"Things went pretty well," said Andretti. "The balance is far from perfect. We still have a lot of work to do."

Jeff Simmons was fast off the transporter this morning but was involved in a two car incident entering the final turn of the circuit. As Simmons slowed for the right hand turn 11 he was drilled from behind by Scott Mayer. The circuit configuration used for the IRL this weekend utilizes a shortened turn 11, forcing the cars to negotiate a tighter hairpin than that used for the NASCAR races. Witnesses to the accident thought Mayer was racing towards the lengthened configuration when he hit Simmons.

Simmons recovered in the second session, setting the second fastest lap of the day.

Wade Cunningham was third overall followed by Bobby Wilson and Scott Mansell.
