Successful Days Testing In Florida For Alex

Clerical Medical and Manx Sports Aid Foundation backed 22-year-old Alex Lloyd completed the first official tests for the 2007 Indy Pro Series in Homestead, Florida last week. This is the first time Alex and the Sam Schmidt Motorsports team were able to judge themselves against the 23 other drivers testing prior to the season start on March 24th.

The first day of testing was on the infield road course. Lloyd was quickest for most of the day but ended up 2nd just 3 hundredths of a second shy of first.

"I'm very pleased with the day" said Lloyd. "We tried a lot of different things and improved the car. It is of course frustrating not to be P1 but the yellow on my new tire run really made that impossible. The positive side is I think we actually had the edge speed wise today and that bodes well for the rest of the season. The Sam Schmidt Motorsports team did a great job and we are excited about the year ahead."

Day 2 of testing took place on the variable banked 1.5 mile oval. Again Lloyd was quick ending up 2nd, this time by a mere 2 hundredth of a second with a best lap average of 185.736mph.

"Again, today was a strong day for us," Lloyd said. "We had the fastest time running on our own and I was extremely happy with the car. I was hoping for a good draft at the end to take P1 but it just didn't happen. I think the consistency we have shown on the road course and oval is very important. We are in very good shape and the hard work the whole team and I have put in over the winter looks like it has paid off."
