Mishael Abbott to Race Indy Pro Series Opener at Homestead-Miami
MIAMI (February 22, 2006) -- Mishael Abbott of Coral Springs, FL, will take to the "home track" when she competes in the Indy Racing League® Indy Pro Series opening race, March 26, on the 1.5-mile oval course of the Homestead-Miami Speedway.
"I'm so excited to race for the local Florida fans in the Indy Pro Series at Homestead-Miami, especially under the successful leadership of Michael Crawford Motorsports," said Mishael. She will drive the road and oval open tests, March 4 & 6, and race for Michael Crawford Motorsports in the Miami 100. Crawford was general manager of Sam Schmidt Motorsports, playing an integral part in helping build the team that won the Pro Series championship in 2004 and finished with three cars in the top six points in 2005. Crawford is stepping out on his own this season fielding two cars in the Indy Pro Series.
"I'm really excited to work with Mishael. She brings a lot to the program," said Crawford. "She qualified fourth at Homestead last year. We want to live up to that--in fact, do better than that! It's an added bonus that she's from South Florida."
Mishael made history last season as the first female to race in the Pro Series. She would love to continue her history-making efforts with a podium finish at Homestead-Miami in front of the hometown fans. "I feel like this can really be a breakout season for me," she added. "If I can secure funding for the full season, I know I can get closer to my goal of someday winning the Indianapolis 500."
The Indy Pro Series is the premier ladder series for drivers, teams, sponsors striving to compete in the IndyCar® Series and the Indianapolis 500®. Mishael Abbott is pursuing dual degrees from Florida Atlantic University in elementary education and at the University of Indianapolis in sports marketing. Mishael is seeking sponsorship support to complete the entire 2006 season.
