Martin Plowman Leads Firestone Indy Lights Efforts with Eighth Place Finish, Pippa OK after Turn Two Crash

NEWTON, Iowa. (June 21, 2009) -- The Firestone Indy Lights race was held at the conclusion of the day, after IndyCar and track officials were able to fix the issues with the weepers. Panther driver Martin Plowman collected his second Top Ten finish of the season with an eighth place finish, and teammate Pippa Mann was involved in a crash with just two laps remaining and was uninjured as her car flipped onto its top.

Martin Plowman, No. 15 Firestone Indy Lights

"I'm very happy with this eighth place today. I know it's not a great result but it was the best we could get out of the car today. The race started out very strong and I think I got up to sixth position but on the second half of the race my front right tire went away and it was just impossible to get a good balance out of the car. At one point a lapped car chopped me and made me fall back to tenth position but was able to pick up two spots at the end. I kept digging deep and brought the car back with the second Top Ten of the year."

Pippa Mann, No. 16 Firestone Indy Lights

"My car was pretty tight from the get go and I tried all of my in car adjustments to make the car better and for the first part of the race I was hanging in there. I believe I touched with Brandon Wagner and that caused my first spin. I managed to keep the car off the wall and brought it back to the pits for new tires and some adjustments. We got back on track but the car was still difficult to drive and I was still struggling quite a lot and I'm not sure if it was related to the first spin or not, but it was tough to keep the speed. I was doing my best to keep off the way and to be honest I don't know what happened. I got hit from behind and the next thing I saw was my car going upside down. As soon as the car came to a stop I jumped off as quick as possible. I'm ok now, but the first time upside down is not fun!"
