Sharp Finishes 17th Quick in Practice; Early Crash Ends Freedom 100 for Pippa, Plowman

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (May 22, 2009) -- Panther competed in this afternoon's Freedom 100 Firestone Indy Lights race, where drivers Martin Plowman and Pippa Mann started 5th and 8th respectively. Both drivers were performing well in the race, until Plowman spun on Lap Six and backed into the outside retaining wall. Pippa was just behind her teammate, and had to take evasive action while trying to avoid hitting Plowman. As she moved out of the way of the spinning car, she brushed the wall, which bent the car's suspension and put both Panther cars out of the race.

Pippa finished 21st and Plowman concluded the race in the 22nd position.

Pippa Mann, No 16 Firestone Indy Lights

"The race was going pretty well, we weren't running too hard and I was really just cruising around and saving my tires for later in the race. Martin was up ahead of me and I saw him pinch it down and spin and I tried to avoid him but I bent the suspension when I brushed the wall. It's a big shame, the Panther car was great today but there was nothing I could do."

Martin Plowman, No. 15 Firestone Indy Lights

"On the first couple laps I was hanging in there trying to get control of the car and get settled. I soon started to make runs on the other drivers and I gained some spots but I got pinched down by Romancini on one corner and after he passed me I'm not sure what happened. I got a face full of clean air and the car just snapped without giving me any warning."
