*Dare moved into a front row starting position after Derek Higgins, who qualified second, did not start due to a crash in the morning warm-up.
"My car was very good in traffic and I was able to close in on Mario (Dominguez), but in clean air I just couldn't catch him. I am very happy to be starting the season second in the championship. It's good for my confidence. Cristiano (da Matta) finished second here last year and won the championship, so maybe that's a good sign."
Guy Smith, #6 Lola (Sponsor tba)
Started: 4th Finished: 11th
"I am very disappointed. The car was very good. We had a good start in the race and we were running third. Felipe Giaffone caught my rear wheel and gave me a puncture. Unfortunately we had to pit to change the tire, and that meant trying to get back any points that we could. It's frustrating. The car was very good and I think we are going to be very strong the next few races."
