RLR Andersen's J.R. Hildebrand won Sunday's (April 27th) Firestone Indy Lights Kansas Lottery 100. The win was Hildebrand's career first in the Indy Lights series, and the first for the RLR Andersen Racing team.

"I'm so happy, for myself and for the team," exclaimed Hildebrand, "a win in only our fourth race together has put us in the lead for the championship. We'll keep going right onto Indy."

Guthrie Racing's Robbie Pecorari earned the second spot; with Arie Luyendyk Jr finishing third.

"This is a great feeling," said Pecorari, who only ten days before was on the outside looking in at the 2008 Indy Lights season.

Pecorari made an impressive dash through the field after he was assigned the next to last spot on the grid (based on points) to start the race -- a move of twenty-one places forward over 67 laps.

Luyendyk Jr made his 50th series career start, a record for the Indy Lights series. "Our car struggled on the restarts," he said. "That's what got us at the end."

Dillon Battistini finished fourth, followed by Wade Cunningham (making an oval start, spelling brother Mitch) in fifth place. Sixth through tenth were Sean Guthrie, Jeff Simmons, Brent Sherman, Bobby Wilson and Al Unser III.

The race was marred by a plethora of yellow flag laps: 30 of the 67 lap total. Ana Beatriz brought out the first, spinning on the parade lap.

Twenty laps later it was Cyndie Allemann spinning, and colliding with Andrew Prendeville. Jon Brownson, Raphael Matos, Marc Olson and Jake Slotten also suffered minor setbacks, none of which were significant or caused injury.

The win gives Hildebrand the lead in the championship standings. He has a slim margin of three points over Richard Antinucci in second.

The Indy Lights return to the track activity in May. The Freedom 100 will take place on Carb Day at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
