INDY LIGHTS TEST PRIZE FOR 2009 IFM DRIVERS

International Formula Master (IFM) drivers will once again compete for an Indy Lights test as part of the array of prizes available in 2009, thanks to the Series' collaboration with Sam Schmidt Motorsport and the Firestone Indy Lights Series.

The American team, holder of the Indy Lights race-win record with 27 victories and three series championships to date, ran 2008 Formula Master Vice-Champion Fabio Leimer last November as a reward for his performance in IFM and has confirmed the prize again this season.

"Fabio displayed a high level of professionalism, maturity and technical knowledge when he tested with us last year," said former Indy Racing League driver and team owner Sam Schmidt. "His times both on oval and road courses were very competitive and you could see his experience in International Formula Master prepared him extremely well.

"We are looking forward to working once again with a graduate from one of the best single-seater feeder series in Europe. It was an easy decision to make; our experience from last year with Formula Master was tremendously positive for all participants."

One driver will be given the chance to test the 3.5 litre V8-powered Indy Lights car in the United States after the 2009 Formula Master season ends.

"We are very pleased that Sam Schmidt Motorsport and Roger Bailey from the Firestone Indy Lights management have welcomed the opportunity to test an IFM driver again," said Formula Master General Manager Alessandro Alunni Bravi. "They are a prestigious team and offer a great opportunity for one of our young racers to gain experience in Indy Lights and show their potential in America."
