Britain's Dan Wheldon has made a good start to the eighth round of the CART Dayton Indy Lights Championship which takes place on the 2.258-mile Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, USA tomorrow (Sunday 12th August). In the first official qualifying session yesterday (Friday), 23-year old Wheldon recorded the second fastest time which places him, provisionally, on the front row of the starting grid for tomorrow's race which is being held in support of the CART FedEx World Series race on the famous Buckeye road course. Dan Wheldon set a best time of 1 minute 14.163 seconds -- an average speed of 109.607 mph -- in his Gemstar Communications PacWest Racing Lola-Buick.
In yesterday morning's unofficial practice session, the British Rookie had topped the times.Dan Wheldon commented yesterday: 'The times are so close. My car was very good, but because the times are so close we will have to make improvements on the car to pick up a few tenths for tomorrow. I am sure we will do a few things, but we do not really need a lot to be able to improve on today. The car did really well on a new set of tyres and I am confident my Gemstar crew will make the right changes to put us on the front row for Sunday's race.'
