INDIANAPOLIS, IN (MAY 15, 2001) Indy Lights rookie driver Damien Faulkner, coming off a victory at the Texas Motor Speedway in April, had another big thrill in his young racing career this past weekend at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway during qualification attempts for the 85th Indy 500. Faulkner, who had never visited the world famous 2.5 mile facility, spent the day touring pit lane and meeting owners of the CART FedEx Championship

and the Indy Racing Northern Light Series. Perhaps the highlight of the day was an in-depth conversation with Roger Penske, just minutes before his drivers took to the track to qualify. Penske had only positive comments about Faulkner's rising career.

"I was incredibly impressed that a young driver with such a rich road racing background could win on a superspeedway in only his third race in Lights," commented Penske, whose team ranks as the all time winner at Indy with ten victories.

"This was an incredible opportunity to talk with the team owners of the next championship (CART) I want to contend in," said Faulkner, who won the 2000 Formula Palmer Audi Championship in England. "It is quite exciting to know they appreciate and notice what I am doing out on the racetrack. Of course, there is probably no better team in racing history than Roger Penske's and for him to take time and talk with me at that point in the day is amazing!"

Faulkner is contending for Rookie of the Year and Season Championship honors in the Dayton Indy Lights Championship, a development series for the CART FedEx Championship. He will next race his Dorricott Racing Team Lola in Round Four of the 2001 season at Milwaukee on Sunday, June 3rd.
