Yacamán Quickest at Open Test in Preparation for Firestone Freedom 100
INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana (May 14, 2010) -- No. 10 Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing driver Gustavo "Tigrillo" Yacamán proved he is ready for the Firestone Freedom 100 by cranking out the fastest lap during Firestone Indy Lights open testing at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Friday, May 14th.
Putting down a total of 105 laps on the 2.5-mile oval, Yacamán clocked his flying lap time of 0:47.2413 (190.511 mph) during the afternoon session.
"We had a great first oval test," Yacaman said. "I don't think it could have gone any better. If I was on a road course, I would have taken the credit, but 95% of the credit should go to Dominic (Cape, team technical director) and the crew.
At Indianapolis Motor Speedway the details make the difference. I spent some quality time with (NASCAR driver) Juan Pablo Montoya here at Indy, and he gave me some really good tips that seemed to work. I want to thank him as well. I am looking forward to the race where hopefully we can keep up the same pace."
The Firestone Freedom 100 will mark the young Colombian's second Firestone Indy Lights start at the historic race track. The race will be run on the Friday before the Indianapolis 500, or also known as Miller Lite Carb Day.
Yacamán is the second Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing driver to be fastest in testing. Cooper Tires Presents the USF2000 National Championship Powered by Mazda driver Patrick McKenna was quickest in that series' testing at O'Reilly Motorsports Park a week earlier.
Yacamán will next be on track Thursday, May 27th for practice and qualifying for the Firestone Freedom 100.
