Among the front runners at the Sebring Open Test:
Straight after the oval event in Homestead the teams worked on preparing the cars for the road course test that was held yesterday at Sebring International Raceway. We used the short course a popular track for testing low grip set-ups like the one we will use come this weekend in St. Petersburg.
The morning session went very well as we tried many different things including three different sets of brake pads to see which one I preferred to use this weekend in St. Petersburg. The car improved with every change we made and everything was moving in a positive direction with the balance of the car. I was really impressed with the changes and the progression of the car all day. We started on a new set of tires and continued to use that set all morning. As far as times go I was very pleased because we were 5th quickest without going to a new set of tires as the top 3 in the morning session did.
The afternoon it had rained a lot so we waited until it dried then went out with the same set-up as before lunch, the tracks grip level was lower so we decided to go to new tires to get a good baseline to start more set-up changes. With the new tire run I equaled my time from the morning and began to try some changes Rafa, my team-mate, had done in the morning. With those changes the car came alive and really improved. I ended up improving my time by another half second despite the tires not being at there best so I was happy!
In the end we were 4th quickest on the combined morning and afternoon sessions. If we could of used our 3rd set to place a time in the end I know we would of been even quicker so I was very pleased we made so many improvements to the car. St. Petersburg will be the next challenge and I am confident we will have a good car there, so lets hope for some champagne come Saturday and Sunday!
